20 CROWLEY MARITIME CORPORATION Throughout its 126 years, Crowley has been involved in numerous high-profile, high-stakes projects with the U.S. government. But, no contract has come close to the scope and value of the company's recent award to manage the supply chain in support of Department of Defense (DoD) activities across the Continental U.S., Alaska and Canada. During the contract process, U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), a command of DoD, found Crowley to be the most experienced, most capable and therefore best suited, to handle the $2.3 billion Department of Defense Freight Transportation Services (DFTS) contract, one of the largest logistics contracts ever awarded by the U.S. government. Under this contract, Crowley moves various types of cargo from thousands of material suppliers through 29 Defense Logistics Association (DLA) sites and nine Defense Contract Management Association (DCMA) sites around the continental U.S. The program encompasses all forms of transportation, including less-than-truckload (LTL), full truckload (FTL), expedited, time-definite and refrigerated services; rail; specialized equipment; and customs clearance service for freight of all kinds (FAK). Delivery locations include vendor facilities, DoD distribution centers, and U.S. military installations. "This is an extraordinary opportunity for Crowley to support the Department of Defense and ultimately, the warfighter," said Crowley's Chris Goss, director, project and expeditionary logistics. "Our primary goal is to offer the government innovative transportation solutions using state-of- the-art technology while providing unrivaled service and cost savings over the life of the contract." Crowley consistently moves nearly half a million domestic FTL and LTL loads a year for more than 12,800 commercial and U.S. government customers.
