JUNE 2019 WWW.PNWR.ORG 7 JUNE 2019 Loving your spouse means… I love my wife for many of reasons, not the least of which is that she kindly tolerates my obsession with cars and Porsches, even though she's a normal human being. I meet normal people all the time—at work, at parties, all over the place; and they are not quite as patient as Mona. I try to be careful. In the real world, when they find out that you are an active member of a car club (especially a Porsche club), one is immediately marked apart. Some- times you can almost see the silent note taking…"Hmmm, he's in a club that's about those luxury transportation appliances I've heard of—interesting perhaps, but also possibly a concern. We'll see…" After that it's a just matter of waiting to see how long before they step away to freshen their drinks. Who are these normal people I speak of, those who don't much care about what distinguishes a Porsche from a Peugeot? I might have expected that men would be inher- ently more interested in cars than women, but even in the real world I've learned this really isn't so. This raises an interesting question. Do the levels of car obsession differ between men and women in the PNWR? Porsche passion is for everyone Happily, the ability of Porsches to thrill, to inspire, to be enjoyed, aspired to, and be well-driven is for everyone— men and women alike. This was immediately apparent to me when I joined the PNWR nearly ten years ago. For example, the friendly yet competitive fires stoked by club autocross events have clearly always burned brightly in the FROM THE EDITOR David G. Looking back as far as I have been around to see, women have been leaders in the club and have contributed, in many ways disproportionately, to the vibrancy of the club. Today we have more women leading the club as board members and committee chairs than ever before. The content in this month's Spiel is a timely testament to the spirit and passion PNWR women have for cars. I really love the piece, "Now It's My Time" on page 44, where Neda Khorami explains her lifelong obsession with Porsches that took form when she was a child. It's proof that little girls, as well as little boys, can inherently connect with beautiful machinery. I challenge you to find another voice that speaks more passionately about this than Neda's article. In addition, you will find an inspiring piece about an upcoming PNWR women only tour (page 52). A rising tide The rising prominence of Porsche women is meaningful for many reasons. First, as the club continues to grow, the "all-in" support of every member is more important than ever. Second, I am looking to our women members to help Mona see the light. I think it's in there. It just needs a bit more sisterly coaxing to bring it out. But most importantly, I am looking to the next generation in my daughter. This month Jenny, who very recently got her driving license, will participate in her first Driver Skills event. I'll be there too, watching the cones and watching her— looking for signs that she too, can fall for Porsche passion.
