Preschoolers and friends are arriving after their open gym activities to sing familiar songs, dance the hokey pokey and share stories. My husband, Andy, and I are partnering with Mercer Island legend, Nancy Stewart, to turn Leap's Pad into a music venue for our community's youngest members. We believe that singing is a powerful way to develop language/literacy skills and to create fun and friendship. I'm a former elementary teacher and Andy is a retired Mercer Island bus driver. Music has been a central part of our lives and volunteering with Nancy has been a hoot (Leap's Pad lingo). Nancy is sharing her songs in a variety of locations on Mercer Island, including the library and Island Books. Nan cy, Andy and I (The Nanas and the Papa) look forward to a new season of first Friday concerts at Leap's Pad in the fall. Stories & Sing-alongs Happy singing!
