For convenient registration please have your course code available. REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION GUIDELINES Registration Don't delay, register today! Register in advance, or you may lose your chance to take your favorite class. Classes that do not meet minimum registration numbers seven days prior to start date may cancel. General Policies • Classes/activities sizes are limited and are filled on a first come, first served basis. • Classes/activities may be cancelled due to insufficient registration or combined to attain sufficient enrollment. • Complete payment MUST accompany registration. • Scholarships (financial support) are available for Mercer Island residents. Cancellations & Refunds • 100% credit/refund if the P&R Department cancels a class. • 100% credit/refund, less the $10.00 cancellation fee if participant requests a withdrawal 5 or more business days before a class begins, unless noted for certain classes in the guide. • 50% credit/refund, less the $10.00 cancellation fee, if participant requests a withdrawal less than 5 business days before a class begins, unless noted for certain classes in the guide. • No refunds or credits will be issued for classes or programs for amounts less than $10.00, unless the department cancels the activity. • No refunds or credits will be issued the day of or after a class has started (serious circumstances considered). • A $10.00 fee will be collected for withdrawing from a class and transferring to another. Inclement Weather Policy Daytime Classes & Programs Daytime classes and programs are cancelled if the Mercer Island School District cancels classes due to severe weather conditions. If the Mercer Island School District is running two hours late, then morning classes (before 10am) are cancelled. A determination about afternoon and evening classes will be made by 12pm. Facility operation and class cancellation information is recorded on the Inclement Weather Hotline at (206) 275-7894. Make up classes will be rescheduled if possible; if not then a credit will be given for the cancelled class. It is the responsibility of each participant in Parks & Recreation programs to know if their program has been cancelled due to school district delays or cancellations of school. If participants are unsure whether a program has been cancelled, they can call the Inclement Weather Hotline at (206) 275-7894 or go to the school district website at www.mercerislandschools.org. For all other cancellations, participants will be notified by either a staff member or the program instructors. Room Rentals If inclement weather affects the ability of the Mercer Island Community & Event Center (MICEC) to operate properly, and we need to cancel a room rental, we will contact your rental group and provide a refund. If your group needs to cancel due to inclement weather but the MICEC remains open for business, the rental cancellation policy will be in effect. ADA Accommodations We are committed to providing programs and services accessible to individuals with special needs. Requests for special and reasonable accommodations will be considered. Alternate formats may be available upon request. Mercer Island residents can register for specialized recreation programs at the Bellevue Highland Center (425-452-7686) under the same guidelines as a Bellevue resident. See Specialized Recreation classes on page 22. Community Athletics Programs Non-Discrimination Policy The City of Mercer Island complies with the Washington State Law ESSB 5967 that prohibits discrimination against any person in a community athletics program on the basis of sex.
