Photography by Brent Jones, Dean Holbrook and Porsche AG Good things come to those who wait This October marks the one year anniversary of what I think was the best TechEd event pulled off by any PCA region ever. In October 2018 legendary race car driver, Derek Bell was reunited with a Porsche 917 here in Redmond Washington. This was an event that exceeded organizer John Mueller's fevered pitch, calling it an "Once-in-a-Lifetime" event. I often reflect on that event and the days leading up to it. How special was it? Well, I am not aware of any single TechEd that inspired so much Spiel content that it spilled over into three consecutive editions (November/December 2018 and January 2019). In my November Editor's column, I marveled that this five- time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans (among many other motorsport achievements) did not take up racing until he was in his 20s. So, what better way to commemorate that event than with yet another Once-in-a-Lifetime PNWR TechEd featuring legendary Porsche race car driver, Hurley Haywood. Hurley has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times, the 12 Hours of Sebring two times, and the Rolex 24 at Daytona five times. Fittingly, it was scheduled to take place exactly one year later to the day (364 days more exactly), again at Chris's German Auto in Redmond. I say was because you may already have noticed that the date for Hurley Haywood's visit has changed from Saturday October 26 th 2019 to February 22 nd , 2020. Although a bit disappointing, the date change was neces- sitated by an intervening medical treatment. No need to worry. Hurley will be just fine and is still looking forward to being with us. Here are a few key details: • Registration for the new February 22nd date is open. • If you are already pre-registered and the February 22nd 2020 date is still ok for you, then do nothing. • Cancelations will be accepted up to Feb 18th. • If you are pre-registered and the 2-22-20 date does not work for you, then send John an email to cancel your registration. • Thus far no credit cards have been charged, so no need to worry about refunds. If you plan on attending and have not pre-registered, click on: www.motorsportreg.com and register for the new date. We realize this will be disappointing to those who were looking forward to meeting Hurley but can't manage the February date. Please understand this was unavoidable. In any event I encourage you to reach out to John Mueller and thank him for the incredible amount of work he has already poured into this event. October or February—this is going to be special.
