Painting a Better Tomorrow 2019 Bright Paint, High Impact O n November 9, Painting a Better Tomorrow brought together MBAKS members, staff, and community volunteers to paint two buildings in Everett for Volunteers of America Western Washington (VOAWW), a community- based organization that has served vulnerable individuals in the Pacific Northwest for more than a century. MBAKS staff prepped the buildings on Friday for nearly 165 volunteers who arrived to paint on Saturday. In total, 45,000 square feet of walls across two floors in each building were coated with 154 gallons of paint. This day of volunteering was sponsored by ERNwest and Community Transit. After a hard day's work, the VOAWW facilities looked like new—a benefit to both VOAWW staff and the people they serve. Often repainting is one of the first things to get slashed in tight nonprofit budgets, but the effect a fresh coat of paint has on staff morale and the sense of pride in the people they serve is immeasurable. This one day of hard volunteer work will ensure that VOAWW continues to contribute outstanding service to Snohomish County communities in facilities that match the quality of their service.
