The October 10 Professional Women in Building Conference, presented by Cyneburg Scapes, celebrated women in the homebuilding industry—past, present, and future. Attendees were entertained and inspired by stories of struggle, empowerment, and success shared by their peers. After a warm welcome from PWB Council Chair Leann McNabb, Executive Director Kat Sims spoke about continuing More Than a Conference The 2019 PWB Conference inspired at every turn. challenges and signs of progress for women in the industry, sharing her own experiences as a woman leader in a male-dominated field. Keynote speaker Amy Matthews, host of HGTV's "Renovation Raiders" and DIY Network's "Sweat Equity" and "Bathroom Renovations" wowed her audience with the story of her own career, providing home repairs to families in need as a teen, before pursuing an acting career. She ultimately came full circle, applying her home improvement expertise to a career hosting DIY shows on television. Amy also stressed the need for women who've succeeded in the industry to give back through philanthropy. After a break for lunch and networking, attendees were treated to a spirited roundtable featuring MBAKS 2019 President Bonnie Geers of Quadrant Homes; Jamie Hsu, president of Lakeview Homes; and Amy King, owner of Square Peg Development. The panel was moderated by Kimberley Martin, president and CEO of Cyneburg Scapes, and participants discussed their own journeys in the homebuilding industry.
