JULY 2020 18 JULY 2020 C O N C O U R S C O R N E R Dennis Rood Hi everyone. Since ALL Concours events and activities have been canceled for the entire year. I want to feature some great stories about Darryl Deppe's 356C restoration for the next five months. He has been working on this for several years and recently finished it. In his introduction below, Darryl outlines what he will cover in each install- ment. Showcasing this project is well in keeping with the scope of Concours Corner. Previously I chronicled a two-year restoration of my cousin's 1959 356A (which he has owned since 1962 and has 273,000 miles on it) in 2011 and 2012. I also had several "Restoration Clinics" at Jack Morris' shop at his home on 356 engine building Kirstan Rillos at his restoration shop on restoring Porsches in general and other events. When this craziness is over Darryl has agreed that we can come out to his 2,800 ft 2 shop and he will put on a clinic covering a number of topics, many of which he will cover in his articles. Thanks Darryl, so take it away… I've been restoring a 1964 356C on-and-off for the last 13 years; and with the COVID-19 quarantine there has been lots of time to finish it, as well as post periodic progress photos on the club's Facebook page. All the positive comments and feedback from members was extremely motivating and gave me a sense of not feeling so isolated. The interest in my restoration work by club members and postponement of club activities prompted Dennis Rood to ask if I might be willing to write a series of articles for his Concours Corner column chronicling the whole project. At first I was a little hesitant because my car isn't a perfect concours restoration. It is a budget driver that I did most of the work on myself in my home shop. Dennis assured me that perfect isn't what the club is about, but rather passion about Porsches. As a do-it-yourselfer on the stuff within my 'pay grade' and diehard blogger with over 20 years of details, I've kept adding to in my darrylsgarage.com website. With Dennis' support we've decided to chronicle the project Photography by Darryl Deppe 18 My 1964 356C Restoration Story – Part 1 Article by Dennis Rood with Darryl Deppe Photography by Darryl Deppe
