From the editors richard and dolores ranhofer There were certain items in the August 2013 Spiel we need to correct. Give the Spiel an award and the Editors loose their focus. First we credited Mark Zeid with the article and photographs of The Cow Bell Tour. The actual author and photographer is Shammi Mohammed. Our sincerest apologizes to Mr. Mohammed. We hope that you and Mr. Zeid will continue to contribute to the Spiel. Mr. Mohammed's article on the Cow Bell Tour was so enjoyable and had me envisioning how much fun the tour was and wishing Richard and I had the foresight to participate. We did correct the Autocross Event numbers on page 10 to Event #8 - September 7, Event #9 - October 5, and Event #10 - October 26; however, we didn't correct the Spiel Calendar to reflect these changes and did so in this issue. Driver Skills: September 7th is Women's Day for Driver Skills and October 5th is Family and Youth Day. Driver Skills doesn't teach you to be a racecar driver; it teaches you to be a safer driver. Richard and I take Winter Skills every year and we learn something new every time. PCA Escape is in Los Angeles from October 24th through October 27th this year and sponsored by the Los Angeles Region. Mea culpa, Mea culpa - I hope that's all we missed. Overview: If you can read, have an understanding of sentence structure, can use email and write a short column once a month highlighting what's happening the upcoming month, you're a natural. Tasks • At the beginning of the month, set up your folders for that month. (We will share the folder structure that worked for us) • Check for emails with Spiel content. After reading, move columns, articles, event notice forms, pictures, advertisements to the appropriate files • Edit any muddles and contact the author if there are any questions • When all the content has been received send your folders to the co-editor for layout • Once the Spiel has been created check the proof against the checklist to be sure everything is in order. (This is the time you and the co-editor work together) Other: A sense of humor and the ability to nag diplomatically (more or less) are sometimes called for to meet printing deadlines. This is a wonderful way to meet club members and have them share their stories with you and PNWR - plus you get to see everything first. We will work with the new team until the March 2014 issue if necessary. The folks at Northwest Publishing are incredible and will give you all the help you need. If there's something you want your family and friends to see just give them the url and they can read the entire magazine any time they want. Finally, Richard and I have thoroughly enjoyed our time as editors of the Spiel and everyone has been incredibly supportive. Our twoyear commitment is almost through and we're looking for a new editor. We have someone to do the difficult part - layout. We need someone to do what I do. I've written a job description and if you believe you would enjoy being an editor, please contact us. If we're at a function and I walk towards you with a lean and hungry look on my face, maybe I just want to say hello. You could be the new Spiel Co-Editor. Spiel Co-Editor Tasks
