From the President Bill Bauer I hope to hear from you at president@pnwr.org or call me at 206.972.5639. About anything! We've now entered our yearly slog through the short, shorter and shorter days with the cold, colder, and coldest rain (cleverly occasionally disguised as snow) resulting in challenging, more challenging and most challenging driving. I have visions of driving the I-5 mist tunnel with 4 lanes of traffic at speed, knowing this much more challenging and dangerous than any track event. Time to be a truly proactively defensive driver. Take a deep breath, ignore the phone, don't text while driving, turn down the tunes and be the most focused driver on the road. Safe, uneventful driving and happy, eventful holidays to you all! Safe Driving and Happy Holidays first 2014 event. It will be wet, it will be chilly, and it will be perfect for building PNW wet weather driving skills. We will increase your driving skills, confidence and safety tools. And you'll have a great big fun time with 40-50 fellow drivers. This is a must-do course for every driver in any car they drive daily, Porsches included. We've been able to fill many of our open positions save the Social Chair. We need someone partner with a Member who is willing to volunteer if we can find a peer who can share the load. Let's see – you arrange events so that Members can come and socialize together. Sounds pretty fun to me! Contact any board member or myself if interested. Finally, our 2014 event planning meeting is DECEMBER 7, where the board and committee chairs will create next year's event calEvents Ahoy! endar. I'd love to have your ideas… email or call me. Gary Barklind We have three super events coming up and I'd like to see as many is attending to get some "northern" events on the calendar – would anyone else want to step forward for some "southern" events? More of you attend as possible. Let's see lots of new faces! • Northwest Harvest Food Drive – December 7 – The easiest event IS better! See you on the road, at the track, in a club meeting, or at an event to attend to help local people in need. A couple of bags of non-perishable food in the car and a drive to Redmond. Quick social event in the soon! Bill Overlake Church parking lot with just the right amount of competitive zest with the Mini Club folks. Then a 2 mile tour through Redmond to the south end of Redmond Town Center. It's really cool seeing all our cars parading through town, and the NW Harvest Folks are very appreciative of our food and cash giving. 'Tis the season! Then an optional lunch at Coho to cap a very nice Saturday afternoon. • Haury's Tech Event – December 14 – Haury's has been a long-time club supporter and one of the owners, Jeff Butler, is also one of our senior DE instructors. This is a multipurpose event with much up-close-andpersonal viewing of major and minor repairs in progress, discussion of how to repair cars so that they retain all the accident safety engineering as originally manufactured and an in-depth tutorial on working with insurance companies including your rights as a consumer. These folks are repair experts and experts at navigating insurance claims, which is really rare these days. • Winter Skills Day – January 11 – Our Help Wanted!!!
