MAY 2014 46 it made you feel while driving." Word of the ACE seeped out. In early 2008 Andrew English of the Daily Telegraph in London contacted Larsen requesting a test drive. The experience of that drive was transformational and in 2009 English published a story about the ACE in the Telegraph. Within a few hours after the piece made press Pete was contacted by MMC. In 2010 Morgan and Liberty Sidecar signed an agreement where, a still astonished Pete Larsen writes, "The Liberty ACE would morph into the new Morgan 3 Wheeler!" Epic cars. An epic drive. For me the story of the ACE-to-3-Wheeler ticks all the boxes—a link to my own heritage, a longstanding fascination with the completely unique 3 Wheeler, and this "quintessential British" motor that came about right under my nose. For years I ate lunch every day within sight of Liberty. The final tick came when Pete agreed to help organize a drive and photo shoot for the ACE and 3 Wheeler. It got even better as I met Conor Musgrave, who shot the photos for this piece. Fantastic, is the best way to describe his work. To better appreciate this, the rest of his photos from that day can be seen at photos.conormusgrave.com. We took out both a Morgan 3 wheeler and the ACE (of which there are only 13 examples in the world; and of which there will be no more). I'm not sure where else you will ever get a chance to view photos like this of these two rare three-wheelers together on the road. The experience of driving in these cars was exactly as you may already have read about or seen on television. It was direct proof that you don't need a 1001 horse- power and a reservation at a Formula 1 track to understand what makes cars special. Close to the ground, accelerating (legally mind you), among the multi-resonant buzz, and noise—all the personality comes out—gorgeous, bonkers, and of course, dotty.
