AUGUST 2016 6 President's Column – August, 2016 Wow. Here it is August—a month even busier than the July we just closed out. I was there to appreciate the tremendous crowd for Porsche Day at RTC, even though attendance was somewhat tempered by the threat of rain. An early morning sprinkle got most cars a bit wet. However, it did dry up and there was even some sunshine. It was really great to get so many people out. I had not been to an event for a while and was tremendously invigorated by all the friends I met there. I was unable to make the tour to Snoqualmie Casino, but reports are that it was a fun event with good participation. We really do a lot of cool things as a club! Thanks to Social chair, Andre Cunningham and his team for getting this organized, as well as to Tours chair, Greg Halverson for the creative tour. We also need to applaud the Snoqualmie Casino for hosting the car show and providing food. Who says there is no such thing as a free lunch? As much as we try to keep our club events open to all, we have varied from that with two events that are only open to women. The first of these will be the ladies only tour on August 21st to be led by Mary Jo Barlow. Knowing Mary Jo, she will not be shy on the routes selected (e.g. don't expect any freeways) nor the pace of the event, all executed with safety in mind. Then on August 29th, we will have the women only track day at Ridge Motorsports in Shelton. I hope we can get a strong draw here, as we have such a great DE program, but fewer ladies in the ranks than we would hope for. Let DE Chair Shay Hoelscher show you how to really explore the potential of that beautiful Porsche of yours, as well as improve your driving skills. It will be lots of fun and expect laughs, as well as valuable lessons on car control that translate well to everyday driving. I know some of our top drivers at autocross are women, and there is no reason to expect anything different on the track. Whistler weekend in late August is one of the best events we have all year, combining the fun of a tour to Whistler, a show and shine concours, an autocross, and what is really a three-day party. Add to that is the great opportunity to meet new friends in the Canada West region—a really great bunch of people. Combined with the scenic beauty of Whistler and the great facilities, there is really something for everyone on this weekend. I'm sorry to say that it conflicts with Autocross #7, so I will miss it along with most of my fellow autocrossers. I love the Whistler event. It reminds me of the first time I toured in a large group that was then lead by Dennis Rood. Ask me sometime to tell you the story about the unscheduled stop we made heading up the mountain. See you at an event soon. Ward FROM THE PRESIDENT Ward Carter Porsche Day at Exotics this year. Look-out point from the Maryhill Loop Tour Photography by Dean Holbrook 6 AUGUST 2016
