in every issue BY SHANNON AFFHOLTER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MASTER BUILDERS ASSOCIATION Preparing for the Blitz, and Other Sports Analogies MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Like Russell Wilson in the huddle, I love looking into the eyes of my 2,800-plus teammates and relaying plays destined for greatness. And, again like Russell, I have a ton of input from many knowledgeable people telling me which plays will prove most successful for our team. Fall is fast approaching, and that means many things: football, foliage and a ton of cool, impactful events and happenings in our communities, many of which are led by the Master Builders Association. What's with the sports lingo? I come from a family of coaches. My brothers, Andy Jr. and Randy, along with our father, Andy Sr., have been coaching and teaching on the Eastside of Washington state for many years. Growing up, I was taught many meaningful lessons I use today. One of these is recognizing and knowing the diff erence between want to vs. have to. Want to is getting excited every day to come to work and do good things. For ourselves. For our coworkers and teammates. For our families and communities. I don't come to work because I have to. I do so because I want to. I know you all feel the same way about your places of work, and about the various MBA events and gatherings you regularly attend. You see it with successful organizations such as ours, along with our hometown team the Seahawks. Seeing players, or members, excited for one another and excelling on the highest levels is motivating, and to be a part of this scenario can be life-changing. Our energy, the passion, is tangible. And it's easy to want to be a part of that. Like football, every contribution of every individual helps drive combined success at the Association. When you elevate, we all elevate. Good teammates know they must be the best they can be individually to prompt widespread wins. Unlike my father and brothers, I did not become a coach in the traditional sense. I do, however, aspire to make others better every day. Just as I try to do myself. In turn, those around me, members, associates and team members, inspire me each day. Thank you, and go Team MBA! (Also Go Hawks!) Seeing players, or members, excited for one another and excelling on the highest levels is motivating, and to be a part of this scenario can be life-changing. 7 09.16 master builder in every issue
