SEPTEMBER 2016 54 Still, it is a 911. Although it doesn't have the violent snap oversteer of the early 911s, you have to be confident and not lift mid-corner. The computer steps into computer-controlled fury mightily if you lose your nerve, but the car will be slow after it intervenes. The way to drive the 991 GT3 RS is to trust that the massive front tires will hold, keep on the throttle, experience the wonderful balance, then get on the throttle after the apex to feel the huge rear tires squat down and squirt you out of the corner. I smile every lap. What do we think? The sheer genius of Porsche's latest light-weight GT car is exactly what petrol heads love, both on the street and on race circuits. Road trips reveal the effortless good manners of the RS, with immense grip and poise on twisty back roads. It also doesn't hurt that other drivers tend to make way when they see Wolfie's smiling face. It's a hoot to see the attention Wolfie gets when we're out and about. A bright orange 911 with a huge wing attracts crowds everywhere. If someone knows about the new RS, they typically adopt a reverent composure and ask if they can just touch it. At the track it is full-on and massively rewarding when driven at pace, dishing out thrills that plaster a huge smile on my face every time. We're two months into the experience of driving this brilliant and wonderful beast. Wolfie has 5200 miles on the odometer, has been to five different race tracks, road trips in Washington, Oregon, and California. Weissach has created a 911 that is irresistible.
