military veteran support 27 Northwest Farm Credit Services Military Veteran Support Returning service members want meaningful work, and agriculture needs workers with the grit and guts to see the cycle of seasons through to glory. But in agriculture, success can't happen without strong support. We work with a number of service agencies to give veterans a hand up and the information they need to build a sustainable career in ag in the Northwest. Vets on the Farm The biggest barriers to entry in farming and ranch- ing are education, experience and acquisition. Vets on the Farm was founded particularly to give post-9/11 veterans interested in a career in agriculture the road map, tools and contacts to help them get started. Northwest FCS funded the purchase and erection of a greenhouse for vegetable starts. Donations also covered material needed for outbuilding repairs, and landscaping and decking around the farmhouse/office as well as the production and placement of signage for the learning farm. Volunteers helped clean up and prepare the land for the hoop houses and greenhouse; built and planted flower boxes; and removed and rebuilt a deck on the farmhouse.
