SEPTEMBER 2017 WWW.PNWR.ORG 51 continued on next page Group 4 for classes S10-S13 and SV1-SV2 was the final group on Wednesday. Michael Rys, in his green Cayman GT4 led S10M for the first three runs based on a first run 39.496 only to lose by 0.061 seconds as both drivers improved significantly on third runs, the winner in a 2007 GT3. It was a great performance and tough luck. Steve Downing secured the 4th place trophy in this class of thirteen in his 2007 Carrera White 997 GT3. Mary Downing won S10L after a close battle. S11M with 12 entries had six PNWR members – as in many classes it was bring your own competition from the home regional series to Parade. Val Korry in his 2016 991 GT3RS added his own drama to the event on his first run with a 27 second time, the first of the event, but quickly negated by an off course near the finish. Val's second run 37.522 stood for the class win and new fast time for the event. Jeff Parks finished second and Mike Moreland third, with brother, Doug Moreland in sixth place. Autocross novice, Brennen Bounds drove his blue 2016 911 Turbo to fifth in class, having won concours preparation class PP12F with the car on Monday! Brennen's son, Bailey driving his first autocross (!) posted excellent times and placed ninth. Kudos to the Bounds for their enthusiasm to enter both events. It was a busy Parade! S11L saw a battle of regional stalwart drivers Debbie Starret-Fry in Jeff Parks 2014 Guards Red 911 GT3 and Wendy Gulick in the family ultraviolet 2016 911 GT3RS. Debbie set the early pace with a 40.076 time, while Wendy hit a cone on her first run. Debbie coned two 38 second runs while Wendy ran clean and faster and posted a 39.801 time on her third run to lead the class. On her fourth run Debbie posted a clean 38.965 time to secure the win after Wendy coned a quicker 38.305 second time, which would have won the class. Pesky cones. Thursday runs for Production, Improved, and Modified category cars began with classes P01-P09. P02 proved the battle of the 914s with Tom LeCoque driving his 1974 silver 914 1.8 to second in class P02M. Wife, Jodie secured the win the car in P02L. P03M class winner, Bud Bohrer in his 1988 Alpine White 944, set the early pace for group five with a 39.897 time on his first run, but was unable to improve the time significantly on later runs. This was the only 39 second time until third runs. Dennis Coplen drove his 1993 blue 968 to the win in P04M, leading handily start to finish with a winning margin of 2.7 seconds. His wife, Barb won P04L. Notably they entered this car in concours class PP07S and won that event, as well. Congratulations on the triple wins. There was lots of hardware for the Coplen trophy shelf (actually wood for the autocross trophy), but trophies nonetheless. Dave Bell led P09M start to finish in his 1996 Polar Silver 911 Carrera, hounded closely all the way by Jack Esposito's 1996 black 911 Carrera 4S. The winning margin was 0.225 seconds, with Terry Osthus another 0.7 seconds behind in third. Really fierce competition among PNWR members - bring your own competition indeed. Group 6 competition included production category classes P10-P17. Erik Kremsner led P11M from the start in his 2012 bright yellow 997 and won with about a 1 second margin in this eight driver class. Robert Hill placed fourth driving a 2009 Porsche Racing Green 997.2 C2S. Both these cars were concours entrants with credible scores. Keith Brown running alone in his 2106 Cayman GT4 in P12M got everyone's attention with a first run time of 36.470, the first time in the 36 second band and fast time of the meeting. He was unable to improve, but demonstrated the speed of these remarkable cars.
