Left: A rendering of the Northern Leader through final production. With operational and construction expertise also readily available, Jensen was quickly hired for the job. The vessel was designed to utilize technology that has a minimal environmental impact on the ocean's ecosystem, while maintaining the lightest possible operational fossil fuel footprint. Final designs brought the Northern Leader to a constructible size of 184 feet by 42 feet by 18.75 feet, offering a 35 to 40 percent larger hold capacity than other longliners in the region. "It has been exciting to utilize our new in-house production engineering services to develop a superior design and drawing package, which has made the vessel a pleasure to build and more efficient to construct," said Sperling. "This longliner is a success in terms of its fantastic design and ease of construction – all of which are testaments to Jensen's great work in designing all types of vessels." J.M. Martinac is pleased to be part of the team building the Northern Leader for Alaskan Leader Fisheries," said Jonathan Platt, vice president of J.M. Martinac. " " Jensen has delivered a first-class design, offering an accuracy that is translating into a vessel that is efficient to construct." "The project development, vessel design, and construction of such a significant commercial fishing vessel like the Northern Leader would not be possible without the representation of Jensen and Martinac," said Alaskan Leader Fisheries' Nick Delaney, managing director. "To us, they represent the best possible partnership in bringing this vessel into the Alaskan offshore fishing fleet." for the upstream energy and offshore construction industries. As a result of the new location, Jensen can add technical experience, such as hydrodynamic and sea fastening knowledge, to the sealift support that solutions already provides to U.S. Gulf energy customers. TITAN, soon to be relocated to Houston in a joint office shared with the solutions team, is perhaps most well known for its current work on the largest salvage job to ever be performed in maritime history, the repair and refloating of the stricken cruise liner, Costa Concordia, which is currently grounded off the coast of Italy. For TITAN, Jensen provides technical services, such as vessel analyses and marine engineering that make the salvage work not only possible, but also safe for the salvage crew. "Solutions and TITAN are tremendous assets for Jensen," said Sperling. "Solutions, in particular, is helping to expose Jensen to the oil, gas and energy markets – areas where we've had limited involvement in the past. We have also done several projects with TITAN where we've supported salvage operations as the engineers on site wherever they've needed us. Having these companies as a part of Crowley has been a great synergy for Jensen and has significantly broadened our product portfolio. It's been a tremendous growth opportunity for us. We're excited about what the future holds." ? Learn more about...
