The second running of the Maryhill Loops road, Art Museum and Maryhill Winery tour! Come join your fellow PNWR members in this event showcasing the Maryhill Loops Road and Art Museum. Maryhill Museum of Art founder Sam Hill was one of the Northwest's first and most vocal advocates for modern roads. In 1998, a 3.6 mile section of the road was completely refurbished and received the Outstanding Project of Historical Significance Award from the American Public Works Association, Washington State Chapter. This section of road rises 850 feet at a 5% grade and is home to 25 turns, 8 of which are hairpins. We have rented this historic Maryhill Loops Road for our EXCLUSIVE USE – that means NO ONE else will be on it! There will also be time to visit the impressive Maryhill Museum of Art and the Maryhill Winery on the banks of the Columbia River, plus the Stonehenge replica, which now reportedly is the temporary location of the Goldendale Observatory while it's main building is under an extensive renovation. Register through PNWR.org, which takes you to MotorsportReg.com for all the details. Note that you make your own hotel reservations at Cousins Country Inn where PNWR has a block of rooms reserved. We have included some twisty, secondary back roads on this route that the club has not previously driven that we know you'll enjoy! We've reserved a meeting room at the The Inn at Lynden for all of us to gather for a pay-as-you-go lunch to be ordered downstairs from Avenue Bread. They have a wide selection of comfort foods including delicious sandwiches and soups with local beer on tap. After lunch, our groups will walk a couple blocks and enter The Lynden Pioneer Museum ($5 per person entry fee) to hear a short presentation by the museum's curator while viewing their collection of horseless carriages. This large and colorful collection, not all of which will be on display, is the largest of its kind west of the Mississippi River. After the presentation, you're free to to explore the rest of the museum on your own. Displays include WWI and WWII memorabilia, antiques from the late 19th and early 20th century farming and homesteading, tools and steam equipment used for logging, an indoor town street façade with many varied storefront displays, and a Sherman tank, among other interesting things.
