E very spring, like clockwork, the most exciting event of the year arrives in my home: March Madness. I scout potential matchups for weeks leading up to the official bracket. Calculating the odds, I plan for possible Cinderellas, review stats, revel in backstories, and prepare to cheer my beloved Kansas Jayhawks to (fingers crossed) championship victory. Like the 68 teams who participate in the tournament, we make plans in homebuilding. We practice. We run plays. Like every team entering the NCAA tournament, whether we cheer for the Gonzaga Bulldogs, Duke Blue Devils, or Kansas Jayhawks, we see ourselves winning. The plan for our team's victory might see us winning quickly and smoothly, or it might include foreseeable challenges. What happens when we metaphorically miss a shot at a Win with PWB at mbaks.com/pwb Game Plan for Success Calling the Audible jobsite? Get a foul called on us by a customer? Accidentally step out of bounds with a colleague or another contractor? How do we regroup from our plan, pivot, call the audible, and win? Professional Women in Building members regroup and pivot every day—and we win. PWB is a community of professionals who work together, elevating and inspiring women in the homebuilding and construction industries; we believe in our mission. Our mission is to make a difference. Seattle is currently the city in the United States with the second most women working in construction, with a 17.6% share of employment according to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2019 American Community Survey Single-Year Estimates. (Minneapolis is #1, with a slight 1.5% lead over Seattle.) Women are in homebuilding, and our numbers are increasing. We're suited up. We've practiced. We're addressing the labor shortage and bringing our innate skills and talents to the industry community we all share— hitting the hardwood, so that collectively as a team, we all win. We invite you to join our team; no tryouts needed. From networking on the first Tuesday of most months to the PWB lunch on April 12, get to know the community of professionals who contribute to our industry every day, navigating jobsites and offices and calling audibles along the way.
