I n a normal year, the first few weeks in December mark a celebration in the construction world—the MBAKS Gala & Installation of Officers. On paper, it's an award ceremony and a party, but to those in the homebuilding industry, it's one of nine different leaders, builders, and associates were individually recognized and celebrated, giving the award-winners not only something to remember but beautiful trophies to take home. The event underscored MBAKS' 2021 accomplishments, including outstanding council events, expanded community stewardship programs, and the highest GRIP refund on record for members and builders. The Coalition for More Housing Choices continued to win legislative victories as it advocated for much-needed the most star-studded gatherings of the year. In 2020, the Gala, like many things, was held virtually. But this year, the party was back on. Hosted in Embassy Suites in Seattle's historic Pioneer Square, the Gala sent us all back through the looking glass with a wonderland theme well-suited to the surrealism of 2021. The in-person event— accompanied by dueling pianos, signature cocktails, and dessert towers—marked a return to normalcy.
