BY MELISSA IRONS 2022 RC CHAIR IRONS BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION A re you having as busy a 2022 as I am? It's not just because I am this year's RC Chair and my husband is the BIAW President. I honestly have been working "in" the business A LOT this year. Thank goodness for the knowledge, experience, and resources I have gained through continuing education as well as the many relationships I have built that help me to navigate the ebb and flow of our business daily. As a former Registered Nurse turned Remodeling Professional, my career transition in 2008 came with its challenges. However, via educational opportunities available through our associations, such as NAHB's Certified Aging in Place Series, I became a leader in my own right and learned to walk the walk as a professional in remodeling. As a lifelong learner, I continue to seek out opportunities to grow. In Fall 2021, I became a BIAW Certified Builder (CB). This certification validates my hard work and tireless hours and solidifies my career as a Builder. As women in construction can attest, this acknowledgment means even more in an industry where ladies make up less than 10% of the workforce. Aside from homeowners, the other references who helped me pass the test were mostly MBA members. Our association has many avenues for growth available to those who are new to the industry. Education is just one. I truly believe that with active involvement in our Remodelers Council you will create relationships with other members who will lift you up and elevate you in our industry. If you have attended Remodelers Council events this year, thank you! I am so glad our members are re-engaging with each other and the community after a two-year hiatus of in-person events. The RC Exec team and I meet monthly (or more) to collaborate with the MBA staff to bring events, energy, and fun to our Council members, so we can continue to Elevate Our Industry! I look forward to seeing you at our June and September dinners where we will learn how to navigate contracts and up our marketing game. Don't forget to register for October's Remodeled Homes Tour where you can tour the work of your colleagues in 3D. Have a fantastic Summer! I truly believe that with active involvement in our Remodelers Council you will create relationships with other members who will lift you up and elevate you in our industry.
