T he sprint is now on for political candidates on the ballot this year to make their case to voters before the August 2 primary election. The entire process then begins anew for those lucky enough to move on to the November 8 general election. Most ballots will be dominated by congressional and state legislative races, along with prosecuting attorney seats in both King and Snohomish Counties. Candidates, consultants, and political prognosticators are all asking (and conducting polls): What will motivate voters this year? The list is a long one. Pollsters and those who create campaign ads have their work cut out for them in 2022. It's ultimately the candidate's job to connect with voters on issues that matter most to them. Watching campaigns and their messaging play out over the coming months will be fascinating because this is a year like no other in recent memory.
