Join fellow Porsche enthusiasts and adventurers in the beautiful Methow Valley for a weekend of exploring in your Porsche SUV or lifted Porsche (Safari) sports car. We will be driving primarily on gravel/dirt roads and forest service roads, so you'll need to be willing to get your rig a little dirty. We will be spending nights at Rolling Huts in a natural, park-like setting along the Methow River. Visit pnwr.org to register and for additional details. Registration is open and closes September 1. OVERLANDING ADVENTURE Friday-Sunday, September 16-18 CLUB EVENT 34 Spiel – July 2022 that." And just like that, it's over. Session 5: It's the last session of the day. It's now hot as the sun peeks out between the diminishing clouds, warming the track and my face as I take it all in. In this session, I plan on working on being smoother with maybe a little less speed but more finesse – smooth is fast. I carry the speed through the corners more, punch the brakes harder, and later, look at the apex and hit it. That one felt great, and my instructor agrees. I'm carrying more speed and hitting a good line more frequently. Aaron and I adjusted my seating position before we went out for this session, and I can feel the difference. My turns are better, my braking is better, and I'm hitting most of the apexes spot on. I'm really pushing the car (or, more likely, myself) now: making it do what I want it to do, go where I want it to go, letting it wiggle, settle, drift, float, brake, and accelerate. What a day! I can't believe I just did that in my car. But, then again, this is what these cars are designed to do: go fast confidently, under control, and repeatedly. Scott, Wolf, Cade, Matthew, and I wrap the day. We can each feel we might be getting a little tired. It's been a long day of intense focus, learning, and exhilaration (acceleration?), and it takes its toll on you. It's best to stop while we're ahead and drive another day. The ride home is calm, feels slow, and what's with this traffic? I unload the Carrera once it's tucked away back in the garage and start to talk to my son about the day: "wow, Wow, WOW!" What a wide range of emotions: from apprehension and nervousness to excitement and exhilaration. What a day! I have to thank all of the PNWR club people who put these types of events on. I'm sure there are tireless hours of planning and preparation that go into these events that we, the participants, don't see, and I, for one, really appreciate it. The nervousness is gone; it has been replaced by excitement. When do I get to go again!? I can't wait for the next HPDE day. I'll be sure to be there! Visit pnwr.org to register and for additional details. Registration is required and closes August 31. NORTH CASCADES to SUN MOUNTAIN LODGE September 30-October 2 CLUB EVENT We will be heading over the Cascades to enjoy Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop. We have reserved a block of rooms at the lodge at a discounted rate. Friday's drive over the North Cascades Hwy will include a stop at WA Pass Overlook. Friday evening will give you a chance to explore the town or stay in and enjoy the lodge. Saturday we will be joined by a group from the INWR, and you'll have a choice of two drives before dinner in Winthrop. Sunday is on your own after hotel checkout. I'm really pushing the car (or, more likely, myself) now: making it do what I want it to do, go where I want it to go, letting it wiggle, settle, drift, float, brake, and accelerate.
