Certified Leaders MBAKS Members Lead the Way in BIAW's Certified Builder Program BY JANELLE GUTHRIE COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR BIAW JANELLEG@BIAW.COM L ongtime MBAKS member and 2016 President, Joseph Irons, was among the first to receive the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW) Certified Builder designation shortly after it launched in 2018. His wife and business partner, Melissa Irons, earned it last fall. The couple values the designation because it distinguishes them from other professionals, demonstrating their commitment to remodeling excellence. "BIAW Certified Builders set themselves apart with a dedication to quality and skilled work, all backed up with third-party validation," Joseph said. "They've gone through a process that allows them to show they go above and beyond." BIAW's Certified Builder designation is a comprehensive accreditation program with standards that far exceed what Washington law mandates for registered contractors. As Joseph took the helm as 2022 BIAW president, he set out to build the ranks of the Certified Builders in Washington. MBAKS Leads the Way MBAKS leads the way when it comes to achieving the Certified Builder designation with four new Certified Builders in 2022 alone. These latest Certified Builders join 11 other MBAKS members who've earned the designation since BIAW launched it— including MBAKS' First Vice President Traci Tenhulzen. Together they make up almost one-third of the total number of BIAW Certified Builders to date. 44 master BUILDER | FALL 2022 MEMBERSHIP VALUE
