24 Spiel – ISSUE 01 2023 FEATURE STORY Story by Sherwin Eng and Photographs by Sherwin Eng and Dan O'Connell I t doesn't take much to bring the enthusiasts out, especially when Porsche Tacoma calls their gathering "Porsche Enthusiast Event." Add doughnuts from Legendary Doughnuts and burgers from Boss Mama's Kitchen, and there's no need to twist anyone's arm. Thank you, GM Stephen Bi. The Labor Day weekend and sunny skies made for a perfect opportunity to meet up with familiar club members and meet new ones. The Porsches were out in good numbers, from the early to the latest models. This was also a good time to reintroduce Jeff Manning as the new shop manager. He has returned after a stint working with Toyota. Mark Greene, fresh from his sale of Orange Crush, was there. (See the November 2022 Spiel.) He now has an empty Porsche space in his garage. I asked him what his next Porsche was going to be. He said he was considering a Cayman GTS 4.0, and I was more than happy to tell him of all the virtues of a 981 GT4 and how comfortable the LWB seats were during long road trips. As he hunted down the other GT4 owner at the gathering, he asked "How do you like your 718 GT4?" The answer was "I love it!" The owner's previous car was a late model Turbo S. It was the handling and horsepower of the mid-engine GT4 that was the selling point for him. When it comes to brand ambassadors, Porsche owners are the best. These events are a perfect opportunity to share and learn about your car, find out things about your future car, or come on out and add to your "make-a-wish" collection.
