Connections Magazine, Issue 18 5 CAT manager of Alaska marine affairs in Valdez, who joined the company from SeaRiver. Fuschetto, a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy who began in the tanker industry serving the Trans-Alaska Pipeline in 2000, said information sharing made the experience positive on both sides. It also gave the mariners and shoreside personnel transitioning to Crowley a positive glimpse into the company. "Working for Crowley is exciting because there are so many opportunities to learn and experience other facets of the maritime industry that I have not been exposed to previously," Fuschetto said. "We're able to provide our fleet with sailing opportunities for a company that is expanding. It's also exciting to work for a company that has been involved in Alaska for many decades and has built a solid reputation not just in Valdez, but throughout the state." "Crowley's diverse expertise brought teams together to plan, complete and carry out the acquisition, and then successfully begin operations without a hitch," said Paul Manzi, CAT vice president. Planning and preparation made the difference to ensure the change in control was successful. Crowley captains and chief engineers sailed aboard the vessels months before the purchase closed to ensure that crews understood Crowley's safety management system. On shore, representatives from Crowley and SeaRiver, worked collaboratively on the transition, including providing guidance for mariners who continued serving on the vessels. "Being able to retain many of the former SeaRiver employees who already had a high level of commitment to safety and common core values made the transition very successful," said Angelina Fuschetto, Alaska Marine Affairs Manager Angelina Fuschetto, Captain Austin James and Chief Mate Andrew Bercovici are part of the team focused on safe and reliable service for Valdez. Crew members provide dependable transport services for the tankers, which load and depart the Valdez terminal in only 24 hours.
