JUNE 2019 6 FROM THE PRESIDENT Doug Andreassen 6 JUNE 2019 Communications and club news We continue to make great strides in developing a communication system that will benefit the membership by providing a rapid response method for up to the minute changes in events, as well as announcing details for pending events. We have now implemented a TEXT MESSAGING system members can opt into. The image here shows how to join in. Look for upcoming contests where we will offer prizes for opting into the program to generate further interest in this initiative. You can also opt in when you look at the online version of Spiel. At Spiel online, there is a pop-up message that will allow you to click on a link where you can fill out the form for various options. Here is the link for you to follow for that option: http://digital.nexsitepublishing.com/i/1116289-may-2019. You can also find this information on our Facebook site as well. We have recently made a change in Social Directors, If you have not noticed by now, Jeff and Sharri Waibel have joined us in this new role. Both come with a rich history of directing and putting on social events in various organizations. Our former Social Director, Sydney Tanner has been elected to serve as a Director at Large. She is taking on new responsibilities that include our Goodie Store and merchandising. Look for some exciting new offerings coming your way. With this change, I would like to thank Ted Vanderhoek and his wife Kathy for 13 glorious years running the Goodie Store. Without their combined business experience and love for the club, the store would not be as successful as it is today. Their efforts exemplify the club commitment of our members that have helped us grow to the size we are today. So, thank you again Ted and Kathy. While we celebrate our 60th Anniversary, we have joined with the 914 members by helping host an event on September 14th (sound familiar) at Larson Porsche in Tacoma to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 914. We are working with Group 6ix to design a commemorative shirt. There will be a host of activities honoring this iconic car. We will have knowledgeable individuals on hand who will tell us the fascinating 914 story and there will be plenty of cars for you to cast your gaze upon over the day. A big thank you goes out to LARSON PORSCHE of Tacoma for helping us make this sure to be memorable event, a reality. We are amid our summer driving tours season. As you may have figured out, many tours fill up quickly. Review them on our website, www.pnwr.org to see what is coming up. As our tours grow, we need additional volunteers to be tour leaders and sweeps. Without volunteers we simply cannot run these events and make them enjoyable for everyone. We are also in the middle of planning an event where you can learn more about these two critical tour volunteer positions. Finally, I hope that all of you are enjoying the wonderful 60th Anniversary photos that are appearing in the Spiel each month through 2019. Karl Noakes, photographer extraordinaire and frequent Spiel contributor, is the creative force behind this yearlong commemoration of PNWR members and their beloved Porsches. This month's excellent cover photo is also the result of the coordinated efforts of Karl, Sydney Tanner, and of our Vice President, Virginie Grange. Thank you everyone!
