SEPTEMBER 2019 WWW.PNWR.ORG 49 After this experience I hope Deirdre will not complain when I take a quicker pace on back country roads & club tour events! And fortunately, on the track, it does not matter where the steering wheel is placed, or what lane you are in. This ride along was thrilling, but not helpful for our other driving adventures. As the rest of our trip would be by car, I heard my "navigator" co-driver shout "stay left!" as I navigated every right turn. Our total trip around Victoria would include 2,693 kilometers, so I heard this often. We did learn how to do the "hook-turn," and I am sure all the locals know a Yankee tourist driver as we pull up to an intersection to make a turn and flip on the windshield wipers (turn signals on the right!). President's Day was a great way to start our Victoria tour. Highlighted by the good conversations with so many Porsche folks. Add to that, food prepared by the travelling pizza oven family! First time I've ever seen a wood-fired brick pizza oven on the back of a trailer. When the rides were over, the club celebrated their year's events and recognized the many volunteers it takes to make days like this a success. At the end of the day there was wine and beer, and more food prepared by the pizza folks. Beyond the pizza, these folks prepared a great spread of kebabs and all kinds of finger foods cooked in their little oven. And this was just the beginning of our "foodie" adventures in Australia. In the days ahead, great wine and food would be memorable wherever we traveled. Conversations continued about the Porsche in Victoria events of the past year and more offered ideas from our hosts about places to go in this very welcoming country. And yes, it is true, as everywhere we went, we confirmed – Aussies are very friendly folks and they love their coffee! As we say in the Pacific Northwest, it's about the people. Thanks to all our new Victoria Porsche friends - G'day, Mates!
