SEPTEMBER 2019 50 Rob Scheibe 2001 GT3 RS This 2001 Porsche GT3 RS race car, one of 54 produced that year, was purchased new in February 2001 by Kimberly Hiskey, who campaigned it extensively in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series in 2001 and 2002 under the Crazyredhead Racing/Fordahl Motorsports team name. Co-driven by Kim Hiskey and Randy Pobst, the team drove at numerous tracks in the US, including Phoenix, Watkins Glen, Lime Rock, Mid-Ohio, Road America, and Daytona, and scored GT class wins at Phoenix, Road America, and Daytona. It was the only US professional race-winning Porsche owned and driven by a woman. After retiring from professional series racing in 2002, Kim ran SCCA and Porsche Club Racing events in the Pacific Northwest for a few more years. The car sat idle for five years before I acquired it in 2010 and conducted a ground-up restoration, which was completed in 2015. One of the most successful GT race cars ever, the 996 GT3 RS is the second generation of 996-based Porsche GT race cars, built to compete in top tier international racing. The first generation GT3 R debuted in 1999 with a 3.6 liter, water-cooled engine as the successor to the 993 3.8 RSR. With further development it was named the GT3 RS from 2001 to 2003, and the GT3 RSR from 2004 to 2005. These "R" cars represent the true sweet spot in the heyday of Porsche's 911 racing heritage, with wins in; the 24 hour races at Le Mans (7 times); Daytona (6 times); Spa (5 times); Nürburgring; GT championships in FIA; ALMS; and Grand Am racing series. 60 TH PNWR ANNIVERSARY K A R L N O A K E S P H O T O G R A P H Y
