JULY 2015 WWW.PNWR.ORG 49 Autocross #3, May 2015 "One misty, moisty morning, When cloudy was the weather, So damp it was the timing cards All stuck together." PNWR's Autocross #3 got off to a grey, chilly start under glowering skies. The first run group was lucky to get in four dry runs, but the second group only got one or two. It seemed like March weather in May, which was ironic as we had beautiful May weather for our first event in March. A handful of novice drivers came out to get their feet wet, both literally and figuratively. Brandon Tudor was among them in his Meteor Gray 2008 911S. This was Brandon's first PCA autocross, and his second ever. Over the course of his runs he improved nearly 4.5 seconds and was just behind some of the experienced autocrossers. Jeffery Gardner brought his new-to-him Mahogany 2013 Panamera GTS out to learn the car's limits. We haven't seen many Panameras on the autocross course, but it seemed that Jeffrey had a good time discovering the differences between his new car and his previous Panamera. The two largest and most fiercely competitive classes are S4 (late Boxsters, Caymans, and water-cooled 911s) and S5 (mainly GT3s and water-cooled Turbos). This year at PNWR events, S4 has been almost all Boxsters and Caymans driven by very capable drivers. A number of them are new to the class, having just purchased their late-model Boxster S after intense searches for "unicorns" (cars with very hard to find option combinations). The top two finishers, Eric Kremsner and Mark Bitter, were both driving Boxster Spyders, with Mike Leuty only 0.002 seconds behind in his newly purchased 2013 Boxster S. Just wait until he dials in that car! Article by Wendy Gulick Photography by Brent Jones Autocross #3
