Will Price. This operation came only months after participation in the ordered destruction of Syria's chemical weapons. Crowley provided logistics services for this high- profile project, which saw 620 tons of substances transported offshore and diffused aboard the 648-foot long MV Cape Ray in the international waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Both of these response efforts were preceded by the company's leadership role during Haiti earthquake relief efforts in 2010 and Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in 2012 and 2013. The company's efforts in Haiti earned accolades from MARAD who said that Crowley was "particularly instrumental" in helping to rebuild an earthquake-damaged port and clearing the harbor of underwater debris. While the company's salvage team surveyed and cleared the harbor, the logistics and marine services groups looked for alternative aid routes. A massive lightering operation was established, allowing containerized relief supplies to be offloaded in the harbor onto smaller vessels that could access beaches near the city. In the meantime, Crowley deployed two flat deck barges and cranes to serve as temporary piers in Port-au-Prince, which soon began receiving supplies. In those three months, over 1,500 containers of much-needed aid made it through signaling, the beginnings of what became a massive ongoing operation. Crowley's combined response efforts following Hurricane Sandy were extensive as well. Shortly after the storm, the S.S. Wright, a Crowley-managed MARAD RRF ship, along with fellow MARAD vessel TS Kennedy, relocated to Staten Island, N.Y., in support of FEMA to provide cost-effective quarters and daily meals for more than 900 FEMA personnel and Red Cross relief workers for over a month. The company's logistics team also coordinated the transportation of oversized pumps, generators and associated equipment in support of DLA and the Army Corps of Engineers while the liner shipping services team in Pennsauken, N.J., supplied transportation equipment and truck drivers for equipment and supply moves throughout the tristate area. Simultaneously, the company's salvage group worked to mobilize its high- capacity pumping systems to the World Trade Center memorial and museum in New York City in order to remove water and reopen tourism. Salvage efforts continued with various services in support of grounded vessels and sunken containers in the area.
