When a family member died from a heart condition, Amanda Hebert was jarred. Her cousin was just 33, worked in an oil field, and by all accounts appeared healthy. But trouble with heart valves ran in his family, and he died despite emergency surgery and treatment. Out of that shock, Hebert pulled together her friends and co-workers at Crowley to support the American Heart Association and its mission of fostering appropriate cardiac care in an effort to reduce disability and deaths caused by cardiovascular disease and stroke. Hebert, a Crowley procurement specialist in Anchorage, has helped spearhead Joe's Army since 2013, raising more than $54,000 to support the American Heart Association in the Alaska Heart Run and Heart Walk. Along the way, she received additional help from Crowley Cares, a company program designed to encourage employee volunteerism and The Crowley Cares program embodies the commitment by our company to support our employees' lives and the communities we serve."
