FEBRUARY 2017 6 President's Column – February, 2017 As we begin a new year your newly elected officers want to thank the members for your support. We look forward to serving on the board by organizing and, of course, participating in the activities we have planned for 2017. I want to offer a big thank you to the outgoing board members Ward Carter (President), Carol Luety (Secretary), and Eric Kent (Director at Large) for their dedication and hard work in making our club the best it can be. Our board and committee members have put together many wonderful events for 2017. We have a packed schedule, so pay attention to the calendar or you may miss a fun activity. Speaking of calendars, please check out "upcoming club events" on our new web page at pnwr.org. Here you will be able to stay abreast of our many events and sign up for non-track events, as well as pay your dues to the Pacific Northwest Region. We just completed our first Driver Skills day of the season. It was a sold-out event and judging by the positive feedback, the participants had a worthwhile learning experience, as well as coming away with smiles on their faces. My own daughter, who went to the class kicking and screaming, thanked me when it was over. She really learned a lot and had fun. If you have children, please get them out to Driver Skills. I t may save their lives. The Annual Awards banquet was a great success this year with record attendance. It was held at the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field. What a wonderful venue. Airplanes and cars just go together; and nothing beats having dinner looking at a SR 71 or F8 Crusader. McCormick & Schmick's catered a delicious dinner, as we gathered with our friends in conversation and laughter. Our Spiel advertisers really came through with some wonderful door and raffle prizes. The raffle proceeds of $2,700 went to Page Ahead, a literacy program for disadvantaged children. This brings our donations to Page Ahead to a total of $21,900 since 2007. Thank you again to our contributors. We couldn't do it without you. I was proud to present our yearly awards to many worthy members who are listed below. The highlight of the night (drum roll, please) was the presentation of the Perpetual Award to Allan Caldwell for his years of service. Our club is fueled by volunteerism and the members who received these awards are fueled by "nitro methane"! Thank you to all our winners for all you do so that we can have a great time together around the cars we love.
