FEBRUARY 2017 WWW.PNWR.ORG 47 continued on next page Condition 1 The "Unicorn" is a car that is perfect in nearly every respect. Many cars at this level will be "better than new". It goes without saying that a 1 would have complete documentation of its history, including service, plus all the original books, tools and equipment. It would have 100% original paint (unless it's a restored car) and the paint would be in superb condition. Engine compartment, wheel wells and under carriage would be like new or cleaner than when it left the factory. Interior would also be as new with only the most minimal signs of usage or wear. This is a car that could be very competitive at a national or international Concours. For Porsche, this is a car you would take to Parade and expect to win or be very competitive with. The biggest drawback for the "Unicorn" is that most owners will be reluctant to drive it at all. Condition 2 A condition 2 car could appear to be a number 1 car to the casual observer. It would be a car in extremely good condition, perhaps with some signs of wear appropriate to the mileage. It would have original paint in excellent condition or a very high quality repaint. The engine compartment would be clean and reasonably well detailed. Wheel wells and undercarriage would be tidy if not fully detailed. The car would have its books, tools and original equipment intact. A number 2 car could easily be a winner in a local or regional Concours and might even compete at the National level. Some number 2 cars can be elevated to number 1 status with careful cleaning and updating. The Condition 2 car will likely have low mileage or be a restored car that has seen some use. Condition 3 This is a high quality "driver". The number 3 presents well overall but shows a bit more wear than the Condition 2. There are no significant cosmetic issues, but the paint might have a few good repairs, touch-ups, rock chips, etc. The car might be less well documented than the Condition 2, or have a few more modifications. Engine compartment might not be detailed at all, just normal condition for age and use. Condition 3 cars could have moderately low mileage relative to age. There wouldn't be any glaring flaws on a number 3 car.
