CONCOURS CORNER Parade in Salt Lake City was a very fun event again this year. We traveled with three other cars- Vander Hoeks, Nelsons and Isaacs- down through McCall, Idaho, a day ahead of the official PNWR Miller Adams led tour, so that I could arrive a day early to help get the now finished "Unintended Restoration" 356 of my cousin's ready for the Concours on Monday. Arriving Saturday night, we checked in to the Embassy Suites, across the street from the Little America and Grand America host hotel sites. Thanks to Tom Bogart for getting a good rate for about 40 PNWR club members who stayed there. While the Hilton chain had bought the hotel a few months ago and renamed it Double Tree, they con- tinued with the included cooked to order breakfast and "Happy Hour" beverages and snacks. So at breakfast and again at 5:30 PM we all assembled to discuss the days and upcoming evening events. PNWR had the second highest Region participation to the host Intermountain Region with 85 regis- tered. My cousin had arrived before me on Saturday, having trailered down the main freeways, and placed the car in the Concours Prep area in the underground garage under the Grand America Hotel. We connected for dinner on Saturday night and proceeded to meet at 7:30 AM the next morning to prep the car for the Concours on Monday. The car had just come from final buffing at Rillos Restora- tion shop, upholstery completed by Steve Shepp of Classic Interior Restoration and engine and brakes and other major mechanical work by Jack Morris of Wolfsburg Motorwerks. It is amazing how much is left to clean after just having had the car totally restored in every area. Paint, glass, storage, wheels, tires, mats, carpet, trunk, dash, gauges, steering wheel and on and on. When I had just finished cleaning and treating the new rubber mats my friend Paul Risinger came along and said, "You know the way you really have to get the rubber treatment in there is to take a queue tip and dip it in the rubber treatment and go up every little rib." Really! Well I redid it. It was amazing the camaraderie and generous spirits of those in the prep area with us that day. Many came by and gave tips. Others loaned special cleaners, preparation materials or other items that Oohing & Ahhing Porsches on display September 2012 53 worked well for them. We worked doing fine touches and cleaning until about 5:00 PM when we went back to the hotel for a swim and shower for the welcome party. The venue was great at both hotels, the meals were done well and the WWW.PNWR.ORG
