activities were as much fun or more than ever. The Concours was held on the Capital grounds at the North end of State Street. I met my cousin there at 7:00 AM and we continued with fine cleaning until 15 minutes before judging commenced. It was very hot! Over 100 degrees. The sun was out and all of the cars displayed on the lawn and in the corral were beautiful. This was a really pretty place to hold the Concours. Each class was judged and when results came in PNWR did pretty well. Here are the results: Group Owner Division Place Restoration R1-356 L James Preparation PP01 J Mueller Performance SMI K Williams Preservation PV-924/44/28/68 PS06T Touring 1977-1988 R Kremsner 1st place 1st place 1st place 3rd place PP01T PF03T All Street Modified The Concours banquet was very nicely done and all of our members looked great receiving their awards. Congratulations to all of the winners. Autocross for my division on Thursday was very hot and a little bit exciting. I had taken two runs on the course and had put my helmet back on and was preparing to move forward from our staging line when I heard lots of continuous honking. Looking around quickly I saw the green 356 coupe' next to me was on fire with flames licking 6 feet into the air. It about 4 seconds the volunteer staff set upon it with fire extinguishers and put it out. No one was injured and after a 5-minute break to push the car out of the way we were back to three cars on the course at one time. I was very thankful for the preparation, quick thinking and action of the organizers and volunteer staff to put this danger- ous fire out. We participated in the gimmick rally and tour to Park City and back to Salt Lake City, and stopped at the Olympic Sports Village, built for the 2002 winter Olympic Games. We watched budding ski jumpers careening down jump slides covered with hairy like plastic, making it slick to skis, and doing their somersaults and acrobatics into a large swimming pool. Students start as young as six years old. We also toured the museum for the history of how Park City got to be one of the largest and best ski destinations in the country. Upon departing the Olympic Village I discovered a flat right front tire. (You may remember that 997s and newer models have no spare tire.) I located the tire inflator that came with the car and it worked just fine to pump up the tire from about 6 pounds to 38 pounds. We continued into Park City for lunch and headed back for Salt Lake City to see about repairing the tire. We were referred to Discount 54 September 2012 Class RS01T Touring 356&356A Tire, who discovered a crack in the sidewall just above the rim that was demmed not repairable. (This must have happened when I ran over a rock on the way out to see the wonderful Miller Motorsports Park West of Salt Lake City the previous day.) Discount finally found 2 tires of the right size and brand 30 miles South in Provo and next morning we were back on the road again. While in Salt Lake City we took a tour of the Mormon Temple grounds and even heard a noon time organ concert. We also visited a fantastic display of Bonneville Salt Flats racing machines at the museum on the University of Utah campus. We attended the volunteer lunch at the zoo on Saturday for several hundred volunteers and for the first time in six Parades participated in the actual Parade of cars up State Street and back to the host hotel. It was amazing site with about 40 policemen stopping traffic right downtown on a Saturday afternoon. Just before we left for the Parade of cars there was a heavy down pour of rain that just as suddenly stopped so we could proceed in the dry. We said goodbye to our PNWR and PCA friends on Sunday morning and drove North, heading to Sun Valley, Glacier National Park and North Idaho before completing our trip back home in Seattle 13 days after we had departed for Salt Lake City. A big thanks and congratulations to the Intermountain Region, hundreds of volunteers from all over North America and PCA national for putting on a great Parade once again. It was a success. Next year Parade will be in Traverse City Michi- gan. If you can't make that in 2014 Parade will be in the Monterrey/ Carmel area. Sounds like another great road trip to me. You just have to plan on it. See you soon in the Concours Corner. All the best, Dennis Leland James with Dennis Rood at the PNWR nightly caucus
