Elected Offi cials Reception Enjoys Strong Turnout In April, the Master Builders Association drew nearly 140 elected offi cials and Association members to our fourth annual Elected Offi cials Reception and Wine Tasting at the Hollywood Schoolhouse in Woodinville. The reception provides a valuable opportunity for housing industry and government leaders to network with one other. MBA President Mike Walsh joined Executive Director Shannon Aff holter in thanking the elected offi cials in attendance for their service and eff orts on behalf of housing. Mike noted the importance of the Association's advocacy work in the community that is enabling us to engage in meaningful dialogue with public offi cials on the issues that matter most to our industry. Walsh also highlighted the Association's Political Action Committee, the Aff ordable Housing Council (AHC), which works to elect pro-economic growth and pro-housing candidates. Mike explained how the AHC is stepping up its eff orts with fundraising this year so that the council can more actively participate in key races. Senator Guy Palumbo (D-Maltby) also addressed the audience and shared how pleased he was to see fi nal passage of his bill, Senate Bill 5674, providing a local option to allow administrative approval of the fi nal plat process. This MBA-backed bill was signed into law by Governor Jay Inslee earlier that day. As a fi rst-year legislator, it was Senator Palumbo's fi rst bill to pass and become law. He thanked the MBA for bringing him the idea for this legislation and remarked on how much he valued the Association as a partner. 24 master builder master builder SUMMER 2017 housing advocacy
