BY MIKE WALSH TERRENE HOMES 2017 PRESIDENT MASTER BUILDERS ASSOCIATION MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Advocating on Behalf of Our Members As summer approaches, I'm happy to highlight the great team of people at the Master Builders Association working hard to protect our ability to provide attainable housing for the growing number of families in the Puget Sound region. Let me present the government affairs team, led by Nick Harper and served with passion by Allison Butcher, Patricia Akiyama, Holly M. Davis, Mike Pattison, Angie Sievers, Jennifer Anderson, and David Hoffman. With help from Dave Ducharme and Ron Main, our lobbyists in Olympia, along with Roger Valdez of Smart Growth Seattle, we house a considerable team who accomplish great things for us. With renewed vigor, we are redoubling our efforts for our Political Action Committee (PAC), the Affordable Housing Council (AHC). The AHC is the state-registered PAC of the Master Builders Association and is the only local political organization in King and Snohomish counties working to elect pro-economic growth and pro-housing candidates. The AHC is bipartisan; we support candidates on both sides who align with our issues. This year, the AHC adopted a $400,000 spending plan for 2017. We will be putting our money where our mouth is when it comes to supporting local elected officials who support our industry. The budgeting process included raising funds from both Association members and parties outside the Association who directly or indirectly benefit. We have established a goal of raising $125,000 this year and the MBA has agreed to match any donation until this goal is reached. Please be ready to contribute to this good cause. Our theme this year is Elevating Our Influence. The efforts by the government affairs team and the AHC are where the rubber meets the road in this effort. Thank you for your support in our endeavors. 4 master builder SUMMER 2017 in every issue
