ConCours Corner Dennis RooD Roo The first judged concours of the season was at Duane and Dawn Schindler's home in Auburn. You may remember from last year the amazing sunny, clear and warm day we had for this same event. This year it was not to be so. Still everyone had a great time. Nancy and I arrived early to help set up and get ready. We had 10 cars entered for judging. Nine in Preparation Touring and one in Preservation. It was clear and overcast when we left Kirkland so good hopes for no rain. It was drizzling when we arrived but when it came time for judging time the rain stopped and we had about 2 hours of no rain. This allowed everyone to do a final wipe down and then the judging commenced. When the rain started after the judging the entire event moved inside the house and lunch commenced right after announcing the winners. We had about 20 cars come out but most were there to observe and for lunch. Tom Lee had won last year in Preservation Class with his very nice 1981 930. He won again. Thanks for bringing the car out Tom. In the hotly contested Preparation Class Jay Gilotti took first place with his 2007 Macadamia Brown Cayman S, Brooks Walton took second place with his 2006 Carrera S, Azurro Blue 50th Anniversary Club Coupe and Ken Watrous took third place with his nicely prepared Cayman S. We amended the rules to allow for the engine covers to be taken off of the Caymans as all the other 911 entries did not have this requirement. We may do this again in the future. This was a first Concours event for Brooks and he consented to write a story for the Spiel so look for it on other pages of this issue. Thanks Brooks. Duane and Dawn had coffee when people arrived and served a great lunch. As usual, everyone enjoyed being together and in spite of the rain we all had a good time. If you didn't come out in the rain in Seattle you would miss most events. Thanks to all the participants and those helping on the judging teams and most of all to Duane and Dawn for hosting us once again. As we drove out of Auburn towards the Super Mall and highway 167 North the sun broke out and we had a nice drive home. A good day. Unfortunately, because of a very low response for cars for the judged concours at Pritchett's on June 4 we had to cancel that event. We won't reschedule it as our PNWR calendar is pretty full for the rest of the summer and into fall. Don't forget the Show and Shine that is along with our summer picnic. Once again, there is a chance to participate in the August 27th Concours at LeMay, America's Auto Museum in Fife. Entry fees are low. Go to www.lemaymuseum.org for more information. Also, if you decide to go they would like to have several of our members arrive early to help place cars. Let me know if you sign up and will volunteer and I will get your names to Sandy Scott at LeMay. Do let me know if you will display on September 11th at the Kirkland Concours d'Elegance. We will have about 90 cars for Porsche and a few from Aston Martin and Corvette straight axle. I will be sending reminders. Also, email me if you want to participate in the inaugural Tour d'Jour for the Kirkland Concours on September 9th which will leave from Lemay Museum in Fife, stop in Enumclaw at the Truly Scrumptious Bakery for a break and end up at Griot's Garage World HQ in Tacoma for a barbecue and look at Richard Griot's car collection. Cost is $70 per car for two people and it will go to charity. This is not a club event but will be a lot of fun and continues our involvement and participation with the Kirkland Concours d'Elegance.
