A Legacy of Housing BY BONNIE GEERS 2019 MBAKS PRESIDENT QUADRANT HOMES MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Members make it all worthwhile. As we close out our 110th year, I've been reflecting on the legacy of MBAKS So much has changed in the Pacific Northwest since our association began We've gone from a handful of boomtowns on the western edge of the country to being one of the most dynamic, fastest-growing places in the world But one thing has stayed consistent over MBAKS' entire history: our commitment to housing Our members build starter homes, move-ups, and forever homes for families across the Puget Sound region and, by extension, build healthy and productive communities people are proud to call home The fact that we have nearly 2,800 members is a testament to the value MBAKS brings to the homebuilding industry, and the effectiveness of MBAKS work is a testament to the collective value of our members Our successes in King and Snohomish counties and in Olympia—most recently with the passage of a condominium reform bill (SB 5334) and legislation increasing residential building capacity (HB 1923)—demonstrates that working together with a combined voice can have a real, positive impact on housing The MBAKS legacy is building, and we will continue to build an association that serves both the homebuilding industry and Puget Sound communities in need of attainable, high-quality housing But our legacy is also rooted in how we've achieved this growth Following our core values, we strive to be accountable, collaborative, dedicated, innovative, recognizing, and respectful By embodying these values in all our work, we can achieve our goal of being the number one respected and trusted source for housing Serving as your president has been a worthy challenge and a great honor I am proud to work with MBAKS and all our great member companies I hope to continue advocating for our industry while living core MBAKS values Thank you for doing your part to make it all worthwhile The MBAKS legacy is building, and we will continue to build an association that serves both the homebuilding industry and Puget Sound communities in need of attainable, high-quality housing. 4 master builder WINTER 2019 in every issue
