Especially with the rise of self-imposed isolation over the last three years, it can be hard to feel like you're connected with other business owners. No one is calling to check in on you and make sure you're doing all the things you need to do each week. No one is giving you tasks, and no one is checking your call logs. It's up to you to determine the path forward for your business and to make it happen. Entrepreneurship can be a lonely road, but it doesn't have to be. I went through a period where I felt isolated in my office—even though there are thousands of other insurance brokers in the country going through the same market and facing the same challenges. I decided to get better at staying in touch with my friends and colleagues in the industry and see what's working for them in their businesses. I focused in on what was going well for me this year and where I could make small improvements. I wanted to get back to attending more in-person events. For anyone feeling stuck or isolated, pick up the phone and connect with others in your industry— build a network of confidants and mentors. You can achieve success when you work as a team; some of the best ideas are sparked when multiple viewpoints, experiences, and ideas collide. Especially if you're newer in your field, I highly recommend finding someone more experienced who can give you some perspective.
