DIY IS DEAD Remember our friend Rob from buildSOUND? He is as integral to the seeds of this new smart home revolution as the Kirio crew. "The standardization of smart home tech is inevitable," says Rob. "I want to be on the front end." buildSOUND is anchored by the two-headed approach of value and quality, both of which daily living falls into. Being in Seattle, Rob and buildSOUND knew they had to do a little more to stand out in a crowded housing market full of insatiable tech hounds. The time is right and the demand is ripe. As Rob puts it, "Smart homes are coming. It's inevitable." So why not jump the proverbial gun and ride the crest of the trend curve? Exactly. No reason not to. And that's how we got here. What about those who continue to buck the trend of in-home technology? Rob has dire words for you: "DIY is dead." Meanwhile, the era of the smart home is alive and kicking to the tune of your every command. Better learn to kick back—and enjoy the pampering. WHERE WERE YOU WHEN YOUR HOME STARTED BECOMING SENTIENT? Typically, we don't realize when change is happening, Today we do. In a few years, when homes like those on Franklin Avenue are the norm, this story won't be a big deal. Today, however, it is. And today is what shapes tomorrow. Feel special. As you read this, you're in on a piece of residential building history that is changing the future for the better. 27 SPRING 2018 master builder
