ConCours Corner Dennis RooD Roo Our concours season has started with the Restoration Clinic on March 26 at Racecraft. Next up is the Garage visits on San Juan Island on April 2 at Bob McDowells, and the Judges Clinic on April 16 at Risingers. After this we should be ready to have a good showing at our full Parade Concours events on May 7th at Schindlers and June 4th at Pritchetts. I looked at the calendar of events for all of the Porsche clubs in Zone 6 to see what each had planned for 2011 for Concours events. What I found was most had none at all, or had possibly joined a display at an existing European or other makes car show. A couple had one or two detail clinics which they held at a detail shop, kind of what we do when Bill Rogers has a Tech Session at Griots or the upcoming one at Bradleys Detail on April 23rd. The twist to the Concours Detail Clinic is that several vendors and staff were assembled in one place, like dent removal people, chip repair, detail experts and others. This allowed people to have actual repairs done on their cars at a discounted Club rate at the session. Maybe in 2012 we can look at doing one. Our Concours calendar for 2011 has eight planned events which includes two clinics, two parade rules judged car shows, two show and shines with trophies, a garage visit to San Juan Island, a Field Meet, Display and Clinic by national experts in August on San Juan Island, and, once again, our big 75-100 car display for charity at the Kirkland Concours dElegance in September. Nearly everyone I have talked to who has attended one or more of these events during the year has mentioned how much they have learned, appreciated the new tips they have picked up, and how much they have enjoyed the great people with whom they have spent time. Give it a try. Come on out to a clinic, show your car and win a trophy, come to a show and shine and try your hand at Concours. Get on a judging teamyou can start out as the timer and watch the rest. For all of you just itching to get your cars out of storage and hit the road here are a couple of web sites you might want to check out www.speedtrap.org and www.seattlegasprices.com. I am looking forward to another fun year with all of you... in the Concours Corner. Club Event 16 We do get a lot of expert advice on preparing and restoring our cars in the Concours, Restoration and Judges clinics we put on. Also for those who participate and observe at our judged Concours there are a lot of good tips given out. Several other clubs in our zone had a show & shine as we do multiple times at the XXX Drive-In and the summer picnic. One club did have a garage/private collection visit. April 2011
