Porsche Club in some way. President, Steve Poole described another new model in addition to the Cayenne coming from Porsche called the Boxcar. This vehicle will feature 4800 cubic feet of cargo space, leaf spring suspension and forged aluminum wheels in order to minimize unsprung weight due to the fact that it will have 14 wheels. Propulsion will consist of two V-10 engines, similar to Volkswagens W-series engines, mated to a common crankcase. Performance figures are not yet available but it is estimated that it will attain 160 mph when fully loaded to full capacity of 24 tons. Zero to 60 times are likely to be in the 40 to 50 second range with braking from 60 to zero will be achieved in less than 1,800 feet. PCA has yet to determine if the Boxcar will be permitted to compete in driving events though concours eligibility is likely. (April Fools!) A day at driver skills was described by Dennis Rood and Als tech notes began Part I of a twopart article on the proper way to check and adjust air-cooled engine valve clearances. On another note, 33 of the photos featured in the April issue were in color including the cover which showed Dave Parkers red 93 PCA/SCCA RS America race car at the Speedware tech session. In Pano, Leonard Turner describes the new 911 GT 2 which is the fastest series production car ever built by Zuffenhausen, featuring 462 horsepower and 457 ft-lbs of torque and as Leonard states This not a casual toy- - - - there is no all-wheel drive, no stability management, no room for inattention or lack of respect. Further along, Michael Cotton quotes one of Britains motoring writers, Stephen Sutcliffe who believes that the new Porsche GT2s accelerative powers demand every last one of your wits about you to avoid engagement with the passing scenery. I cant imagine what it would be like in the middle of the night, in the rain, on a dark and unfamiliar road. Fantastically scary, no doubt. However Leonard also states about the car, For the times when too much of a good thing is just about right. In another article, perennial Pano contributor Bob Gutjahr, furnished another of his Porsche adventures- - - this one detailing his first Porsche purchase, a 924. At the time, he was a Cadet at the US Military Academy and some of the goofy things he and his Cadet buddies accomplished with their cars during their senior year just goes to prove, I guess, that US Military Academy Cadets dont have any more common sense than the rest of us.
