One highlight of the trip was meeting Jurgen Barth and Ilse Nadella from the Porsche factory. The Germans were shocked when they went back on track after lunch. Sheryl got to ride with Jurgen for a couple of hot laps in his factory ride, a 924 GTR. Maybe the fastest 924 ever made, had a full roll cage and sliding Plexiglas side windows. Looked like 1982's 944. Jurgen apologized for the sideways drive to Sheryl, explaining his P7's were a little worn. track days and DE events. In fact they weren't even as safety conscious as we were in 1981! Want to go for a ride in the '73 911RS with good ol' Henri? Just hop in and belt up. "You don't need no steenking helmet!" Lunch at the track was a real trip; we all adjourned to a large tent with a fantastic buffet table and many, many bottles of wine. The chef entered the tent with a large platter holding some meat wrapped in a pastry crust and all applauded when he toured and showed it off. After a couple of hours of eating, drinking great wine and visiting it was time to head back to the track for a few more laps! Evidently they are all used to drinking at lunch and getting back behind the wheel, remember this was 1981. By Saturday afternoon it was time to head back to Paris and on to Monaco for the F1 race the next day. Poor Sheryl had to ride in the back seat of Jean-Henri's 911T both ways.
