NOVEMBER 2020 WWW.PNWR.ORG 39 (not everyone does). Again, small groups separated by increased time were the rule for this tour. There will be a separate article about this tour as well, so be watching for it. After starting out in the fog at Smokey Point Rest Area, the weather cleared just before Darrington and it was clear skies for the rest of the weekend, a rarity for October over the North Cascades. A little side story here. On Day 2 of the tour, which was an out- and-back to Conconully State Park, one of our Group 4 members (Norbert Kremsner) sighted a Black 944 for sale and called it out to the group. I called out that maybe he should come back after the tour and buy it, so he'd have two. He has a Guards Red National Concours winning 944 Turbo! Well, turns out that we were not the only group to notice the black 944. Curtis Broderson, our overall tour leader in Group 1 also saw it and it turned out that he really had been looking for a black on black 944 for over a year and he DID go back! It was a 1991 944S2 (last year for the 944), which we learned was exactly what he was looking for. Long story short--he bought it after a test drive and drove it home the next day with our little impromptu group. He said it ran great, so we'll have to see if it turns out to be a great deal. It looked to be in really good shape. So, we finally made a couple of tours happen, but it was not easy with the Covid-19 restrictions. With no improvement in reported Covid-19 cases in our state, it is safe to say that we aren't going to see any change of the social distancing, mask wearing, or group size restrictions anytime soon. With that in mind, we will not be planning any winter tours until we can get back to some degree of normalcy where we can all meet in a large group, have face-to-face driver meetings, form larger groups and actually end someplace where we can socialize together. When that happens, a tour may happen with short notice, so keep watching the PNWR website and be ready to jump on the registration! Lastly, event planning for all 2021 PNWR events will take place (virtually) on November 14th. If you have good suggestions for tours next year, please call, text, or email me. We need some new ideas!
