From the President Bill Bauer I hope to hear from you at president@pnwr.org or call me at 206.972.5639. About anything! Ive had the opportunity this year to enjoy a wider variety of the clubs events, and Id like to provide a few words of observation. In previous years I concentrated on Driver Skills and Driver Education which just about filled the time I had available for club functions. While I still attend most of these, I do so as an Instructor. This arrive-and-work participation takes a great deal less time and effort than the responsibilities of the teams that run these events that Ive had in the past. So, more time for a diversity of club functions. And, as I am passionate about teaching high performance driving and how useful the techniques are in everyday situations, Im enjoying DS and DE in new ways. The best change is that Im meeting more of you at these events! In the last 8 months Ive also changed my perspective on the club from how do we make DE and DS the best experience for our members to how do we make the Porsche Club the best experience for our members? This 6 September 2011 has led to a series of questions, queries, and requests in this column to you the members for comments and suggestions on what we can do better for you. I plan to leave the same opening line on this column for a couple of months with the expectation that youll provide inputs that well use in our 2012 planning. Why I Like Porsche Club Events Ok, so this sounds a bit sophomoric, but lets keep it simple. I like our Porsche events because the people who attend them are fantastic! Ive been to every kind of event the club has (full disclosure: Ive not entered a car in a full concours, but Ive attended and thoroughly enjoyed the exquisite art of others, and Ive not competed in autocross although I did take the autocross training course). At every event I enjoy the people who attend their stories, their questions, their hobbies, their reasons for owning a Porsche. You chose a Porsche, and that great sense of satisfaction you enjoy every time you are in it gives us a wonderful shared culture that permeates every event. I
