14 We made our way through Osaka, Kyoto, the small town of Nanau, around Mount Fuji, and into Tokyo. The roads were both exotic and familiar, with the distinctive Japanese architecture and only Kanji on the street signs, but also a familiar topography that reminded us of the Pacific Northwest. By the time we drove into Tokyo on the final day, we'd driven about 2,500 miles across 8 time zones. We were spent but also elated with the adventure that we had just completed and the friends we had made along the way. On the final night of the rally, we heard that the 21st Gumball would be an incredible European road trip from Myknonos to Ibiza and decided that we had to do it again. We craved more time on those European roads and wanted to put all that we had learned into use again, including some fresh ideas for the next wrap. After we got back from Japan, we started working with Troy on an updated design, and "map wrap" was born. Jon had been toying with the idea of a map-based wrap for a while, and we wanted the new look to be inspired by the route we'd be driving. Troy ran with the idea and did over 100 hours of graphic design work to make it happen. He stitched together Google Maps screenshots of the seven cities on the rally, painstakingly connecting each one with some creative interpretation starting with Mykonos on the hood, wrapping Spiel – August 2021
