27 Spiel – August 2021 days left to finalize the details for the Maryhill Loops Tour. That turned into almost a full time job in itself. There were six groups in two "waves" an hour apart with three groups in each wave. All went like clockwork with spacing for lunch and the destination in The Dalles, OR. The views of Mt. Rainier from Highway 123 were spectacular. I heard the Packwood autocrossers had similar comments on their way down and back. Hard to beat that scenery! There was plenty of driving to be done on Friday and again on Saturday in addition to the time spent on Maryhill Loops Road. The weather was supposed to be over 100 degrees on Saturday, and as we arrived on Friday afternoon at Cousin's Country Inn, no one doubted it. However, some high clouds rolled in overnight and kept the temperatures in the 80's with a breeze on Maryhill Loops Road, and that made all the difference! We lucked out! I got many favorable comments about the tour, so that was nice to hear. The Diablo Lake mid-week tour on August 19th and the Women's Only Tour on August 28th will be in the books by the time this is published, so hopefully they both went well. As of this writing, Diablo Lake was sold out with a waiting list, and the Women's Tour was at 28 out of the 30 car maximum, so that may have sold out by the registration deadline as well. That leaves the Mt Baker/Artist Point tour on Sept. 11th and the North Route Tour to Somewhere on Oct. 3rd as the only remaining tours before we launch into winter tour season. Let's hope the Delta and Lambda and whatever COVID strain does not set us back to where we were in 2020. Please do your part to help prevent that from happening (and I'll leave it at that).
