of the late model OBD engine management systems that have become common in the past 15 years on all the Porsche models. The second PCNA presentation was on After Sales Parts Support Training, a discussion on Porsche parts knowledge that included a booklet (Reference 1) describing all the various Porsche number systems used over the years on serial numbers, parts numbers, VIN systems, engine and transmission numbering, even some ID number locations. In addition to the PCNA presentations there was a presentation on Michelin tires and eight presentations by PCA technical advisors on problems and procedures related to owners Porsche problems. Peter Smith, chairman of the PCA Tech Committee, gave a presentation on the Durametric diagnostic system, which is advertised in Panorama and used by some local shops and can also be purchased by owners of later model OBD Porsches, to read out fault codes on their cars with an attached computer and assist in problem diagnosis. Other technical presentations were focused on common mechanical, electrical and tuning problems as well as John Patereks summaries of cosmetic repairs on various models. In the past, when there was a new Porsche model on the near horizon, we always looked forward to the Parade each year to get some clues on what the future would be. By the time this Parade arrived, it was pretty common knowledge that there would be a new rear-engine sports car called the 991 for the 2012 year, and 38 October 2011 several national magazines had introductory articles (Reference 2) on the new model, but there had been no official statements released on it and there was surprisingly little information about it at the Parade. It now appears the public introduction for the 991 will be at the Frankfurt show in Germany this September, as described in the September, 2011 Panorama. The new car will apparently have a 4 inch longer wheelbase than the 996/997 series (approximately 96.5 inches), but the front and rear overhangs are shorter by 1.3 and 0.5 inches, respectively. Some significant body structural changes were made with high strength steel, resulting in an 80 to 100 pound lighter weight. Reference 2 says the base Carrera will have a 3.4 liter engine with 350 hp and the S model will be 3.8 liter with 400 hp. Apparently the longer wheelbase will allow conversion to a hybrid version in 4 years. It will be interesting to review the details as they become available. Parade Awards One of the awards made at Savannah was to the winner of the PCA raffle for the 1973 911T that had been completely restored from the ground up by the factory. The drawing was held before the Parade, but the winners, Bud Kibbee and his wife from Sacramento Valley Region, were not announced until the Victory banquet on August 6th. The finished car was on display in the Hospitality room at the Parade all week and there were no lack of interested members
